About the archive

The City of Port Phillip Records Archive contains a large number of original historical documents dating from the 1850s onwards, including council records from the former cities of St Kilda, Port Melbourne and South Melbourne. These are records received and created by council officers in the course of their daily work, such as files and general correspondence.

The index for the St Kilda Historical Correspondence A-Z collection, dating from 1857 to the early 20th century, lists some of the earliest St Kilda correspondence and can be searched at  A-Z St Kilda Historical Correspondence.
